The idea of the London Project at Birkbeck, of which this event is a kind of off-shoot, was to re-investigate cinema history in a manner that would be expected from, and recognised by, subject disciplines other than 'film studies'. John Sedgwick's work on the economics of 1930s British cinema is a model example of what should be done. With the London Project we had a sense of where to go, but there is so much more to be done.

		<description>I think it looks a marvellous line up and I'm very interested to hear everyone - although I confess I'm particularly looking forward to John's paper as he is such an expert in economic analysis.</description>
